Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information Game Journal handles, why it is needed, and the choices available to you.

Effective July 21, 2026

Information we collect

When you sign in with Steam, Steam provides your SteamID64 and may provide your display name, avatar, and profile URL. With the connected account, Game Journal retrieves your owned games, playtime, and recent play information so it can build and synchronize your library.

We store the information you add or generate in the service, including library status, ratings, favourites, private notes, playthroughs, journals, reviews, lists, media URLs, preferences, metadata reports, activity history, and recommendation history. We also handle basic technical information needed to deliver and secure the service, such as session records, request errors, synchronization status, and administrative audit records.

How we use information

We use this information to authenticate you, maintain your library, provide journal and discovery features, synchronize providers, personalize recommendations, respond to metadata reports, prevent abuse, troubleshoot failures, and operate and improve Game Journal. We do not sell personal information or use it for third-party advertising.

AI features

If AI features are enabled and you choose to use them, the information needed for that request may be sent to Cloudflare Workers AI. This can include relevant game, library, review, journal, or preference context, depending on the feature. AI output can be inaccurate, and you should review it before relying on it.

Cookies and sessions

Game Journal uses essential HTTP-only cookies to keep you signed in and to protect the Steam sign-in flow. A normal sign-in session lasts up to 30 days, while the temporary Steam sign-in state expires after about 10 minutes. The current service does not use advertising or analytics cookies.

When information is shared

Information is shared only as needed to operate the service, comply with law, protect users and the service, or complete a request you make. Relevant providers include Steam for authentication and library data, Cloudflare for optional AI processing, and hosting, database, cache, and queue providers used by the deployment. IGDB and SteamGridDB supply catalog metadata and artwork.

Some artwork and links are hosted by third parties. Loading those resources or following those links can disclose ordinary request data, such as your IP address and browser details, to the third party under its own privacy policy.

Retention and security

Account and journal information is generally retained while the account is active or as needed to provide the service. Some records may be retained longer when reasonably necessary for security, legal obligations, dispute resolution, backups, or service integrity. We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, but no online service can guarantee absolute security.

Your choices and rights

You may update or remove supported content through Game Journal. Disconnecting a provider does not automatically delete journals, reviews, lists, playthroughs, manually tracked history, or previously imported library information. Where applicable, you may ask the service operator for access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or an objection to processing through the contact channel published for your deployment.

Children

Game Journal is not directed to children who are not legally able to consent to use of an online service in their location. If the operator learns that information was collected from a child without required permission, it should be removed.

Changes and contact

This policy may change as the service evolves. Material changes should be announced through the service and reflected in the effective date. Privacy questions and requests should be sent to the service operator through the contact channel published for the deployment.

Your use of Game Journal is also governed by the Terms of Service.
